I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the compassion and generosity you showed throughout 2025. Because of you, Caritas Australia continues to walk alongside our partners and the world’s most vulnerable communities.

In the past year, your support reached more than 2.3 million people through 100 projects across 30 countries. Together, we directly assisted over 790,000 people, helping families access food, clean water, healthcare and education. Through your solidarity and our global partnerships, communities have continued to recover from hardships such as conflict, displacement and the increasing impacts of climate change.

Wherever we work, one truth remains constant: lasting change begins with partnership, and your kindness is helping turn resilience into opportunity. With 74 local partners, we are strengthening communities today, while laying out the foundations for generations to come.

This edition of Together: Partnership in Action showcases the impact of your support, the courage and determination of those we serve, and the compassion that makes it all possible.

As we look to the year ahead, I feel incredibly hopeful. Around the world, we continue to witness the extraordinary strength of communities who, even in the face of adversity, choose courage and perseverance. With your continued support, we will keep working together to build a more just and caring world.

Your impact across the world

Year in review: 2024-25

Africa

This year, you helped support 16 development projects across Africa, reaching 746,565 people – including 40,991 women and girls like Worknesh in Ethiopia. Through our partner Caritas Ethiopia’s CLEAR Program, she learned to diversify her crops and boost her income. Now, she grows coffee and vegetables that nourish and sustain her family.

Asia

This year, you helped support 36 development projects across Asia, reaching 815,459 people, including women, children and people with disabilities. Your generosity helped Pronali, an indigenous mother of two from Bangladesh. She joined Caritas Bangladesh’s Community Managed Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience Program and trained in safe motherhood practices. Now, she ensures safer births and stronger community health.

The Pacific

This year, you helped support 15 development projects across the Pacific, reaching 290,972 people, including 15,487 children like Toefuata’iga and her classmates in Samoa. With your generosity, they gained access to clean water through Caritas Samoa. With a new 10,000-litre tank installed at their school, the students’ health and hygiene have improved and they can spend more time learning in the classroom.

Australia

This year, you helped support 46,662 people through six First Australian-led projects with local partners nationwide. In Western Sydney, Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation strengthened culture and community by reconnecting families with Country and one another. This year, its Mums and Bubs group created the book Why Our Children Are Proud to be Aboriginal, celebrating identity and pride.

Your impact across emergency responses

Your support helped us to stand alongside communities in conflict zones and disaster-prone areas when they needed it most. This year, your generosity helped reach more than 2 million people through emergency projects supported by Caritas Australia — including 285,100 direct participants. Together with our partners, we responded to 23 humanitarian emergencies across 15 countries, focusing on rapid response, long-term recovery and emergency preparedness to assist those affected.

Gaza

The situation in Gaza remains catastrophic. Over 60,000 people have lost their lives – including more than 18,000 children – and the entire population is facing a severe starvation crisis. Families continue to endure unimaginable hardship as access to food, water and shelter remains limited.

Thanks to your generosity, and in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Caritas Jerusalem, we have contributed to the support of:

1.72 million people with food rations and cash assistance.
341,790 people with safe shelter, bedding and living supplies.
500,268 people with clean water, hygiene and sanitation kits.
Over 11,700 children and caregivers with psychosocial support.
140 people, most of them children, with prosthetic limbs in partnership with the Artificial Limbs and Polio Centre.

Ukraine

The war in Ukraine continues to devastate lives, with over 40,000 civilian casualties. 6.5 million people have fled the country, 3.7 million remain displaced within Ukraine, and 12.7 million now require humanitarian assistance.

With your support, and in partnership with Caritas Ukraine, DePaul International and CAFOD, more than 600,000 people have been supported with:

Emergency food and water.
Temporary shelter and housing repairs.
Trauma support for families.
Essential medicine and hygiene kits.

Ella and Ava’s bake sale

Perth sisters Ella and Ava have been serving up sweet treats as part of their Project Compassion fundraiser, which has become a much-loved tradition at St Dominic’s Parish in Innaloo.

This year’s effort was another massive success, raising over $4,180 to support vulnerable communities through Caritas Australia. Of course, Ella’s famous apple pies stole the show again – with 59 pies sold and plenty of happy customers waiting as she made them fresh!

Ella and Ava’s creativity, dedication and the joy they bring to their community each year is truly inspiring.

Highest fundraising school in Project Compassion history

St Angela’s Primary School in Castle Hill was the highest fundraising school in Project Compassion history, raising an extraordinary $52,935.77 in support of vulnerable communities around the world.

This incredible effort is a testament to the generosity, leadership and commitment of the entire school community – from students and staff, to families. Their passion for social justice and putting faith into action truly embodies the spirit of Project Compassion.

A huge congratulations and heartfelt thank you to everyone at St Angela’s for this inspiring and record-breaking achievement.
